From the moment we walked into the Victorian Bath House, set inside (...wait for it...) an old Victorian bath house in Bishopsgate, I knew my two-drinks-and-home-by-10pm goal was going to go out the window. Also known as By Appointment Only, this venue is exquisite from start to finish.
Upon arrival, we were informed that our table would be ready shortly and were then asked if we'd care for a complimentary cocktail while we waited. Already, we were hooked. Offering me a complimentary cocktail is like asking if I'd like to get paid to cuddle puppies.
Arriving in quaint tea cups, our little welcome cocktails were a really nice touch and the perfect way to start the evening. Luckily, everything else at the Victorian Bath House turned out to be equally as excellent. The decor is absolutely stunning, the staff are warm and personable, and the drinks...oh the drinks. I kicked things off with a PB&J Duo, consisting of peanut butter rum and childhood dreams. It was a perfect dessert cocktail, rich and creamy but without being too sickly sweet. Next up was the Rhubarb Flip, described as 'rhubarb and custard meets pure addiction.' Again, it was dessert in a glass, with just the right amount of tartness. There's also a Stirred Salted Caramel cocktail ("sexy in a glass - but not in a weird way") and the assembly-required Wash, Rinse, Repeat cocktail which arrives in three separate bottles nestled inside a mini bath tub.
I could go on about all of the delicious cocktails and the beautiful surroundings, but I need to hurry up and make a reservation for my next visit before word gets out about this gem of a watering hole. You should probably do the same. Hopefully I'll see you there. In case there's any doubt, I'll be the one loitering around the complimentary cocktail dispenser...
The Victorian Bath House is open Thursday-Saturday from 5pm-12am and is also available for private hire. Advanced booking is strongly recommended.
